It’s a natural, if somewhat depressing, reaction to think that someone’s got ulterior motives when they compliment your physical appearance. Maybe she’s playing some kind of prank on you.

She could be trying to boost your self-esteem because she’s a good person. Or she might be complimenting you to be polite.

Or, just as likely as anything else, she legitimately thinks you’re handsome because beauty is subjective. Just because you don’t see it when you look in the mirror doesn’t mean someone else won’t.
