CHEATING
Why Men Turn a Blind Eye If Their Friend Cheats
Three friends; two “blind” men, and one cheating friend.
See how he cheats? Every night repeats.
Although society depicts cheating as an act we shouldn’t tolerate, many people — mostly men — turn a blind eye and see this as nothing more than a rule rather than a law.
And bad boys like to break rules.
However, they aren’t wrong. It isn’t technically a written law, thus making them untouchable, in the right, and, by definition, innocent.
That’s why most of their friends willingly look the other way.
But are they really innocent?
Because besides technicality, there are many other reasons why they ignore their cheating fellow men. Some of it may be justifiable, but mostly, it’s out of being a man and what they think they’re entitled to.
1. Minding their own business
They won’t spill the tea because it isn’t theirs to spill.
Men who are like this don’t necessarily help their friends cheat in any way. However, the fact that they did nothing benefits their cheating friends.
Silence doesn’t necessarily mean they had no part in it. On the contrary, they said enough.
But I get it. They don’t like things to backfire on them, so they don’t take any risks. As long as it doesn’t come back to bite them, their friends can cheat anytime they want.
2. Testing their loyalty
The cheating friend usually demands to know whose side their pals are on, putting their friendship on the line and threatening them if they ever spill. It’s ironic, isn’t it?
Like a well-organized crime, cheating won’t work if one of them snitches; thus, loyalty is key. In some cases, talking some sense into him would come across as a threat and damage the friendship.
3. Because that’s what men do
Male cheaters often give in to the stereotype that they are more manly and well-respected if other males see them juggle multiple women at the same time. Hence, most men turn a blind eye to a cheater because they want to be like him.
They run operations that benefit the ideology of what a man is entitled to because, deep down, they all want it and know it’s merrier the more men are involved.
4. Honor among thieves
Have you heard of the Bro Code? I’m sure you have. It’s the notion of putting men before women, following a set of imaginary rules that can help out a “bro” in challenging situations.
They look out for each other’s interests out of respect and understand that whatever their bro needs, they always have his back.
Why am I ranting about this?
You may think of me as a narrow-headed, radical feminist in my attempt to ascertain and point at men who have turned a blind eye.
But I’d like to believe and speak for all women when I say that men are more excused if they cheat as compared to us. It’s no secret that if it were women to cheat, society would brand us as adulterers.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that if you ever witness your bro cheating, all I’m asking is for you not to turn a blind eye. Cheating is never okay, no matter the circumstances; it destroys lives and breaks families.
